Working third shift life

Looking back from when I worked third shift all the way up until now so much has changed a lot since then. Back in those days, I would go to work at like 10:30 pm until 7 am I worked 4 days and got three days off. I would unload trucks then unload the pallets into the groceries aisle to make things more fun there were about 24 aisles total which would include beverage and laundry soap being the heaviest ones which were never fun since some people wouldn’t stack drinks pallets to began with.

When you stack a pallet you’d start from the back and work your way up it’s like the game of Tetris but with boxes of every product is coming in that box once you learned it you were golden but some people just didn’t understand the concept of stacking a pallet. at one point people knew if they got my pallet that it wouldn’t fall.

But back to the third shift life, I would get home and at that time I lived with my big brother we both lived that life for many years we would both end up falling asleep in the morning wake up in the afternoon, or around 3pm eat some food or run some errands then go back to sleep until 9:30 pm which I would try to get to work early sit in the break room and watch tv for few minutes to get my brain into fully functional mode.

The Interesting part – I went through bosses like I went through box cutters they rotate bosses like every 6 months don’t get me wrong here we have leaders then the managers are the thing I meant to say they rotate the most. we had this one the whole team rebelled against since she would always take us out of the aisle we were working in would get halfway through the aisle then she would move us to a different one and say she would finish it for us but never did. The team got tired of that real fast which she ended up moving to the dayside team.

Dancing – We did do some dancing at night since we had the radio overnight without any customers some of us would find dancing I may or may not have taken part in dancing. At one part there was a dance battle. some times before pitching the truck that’s was what some of us would do just to make work more fun

The Team – We had this amazing team that’s what kept me there for 10 years we stuck together if one of us stayed late you bet a few more team members would stay late helping.

Now – I no longer work third shift I and work mid-shift which I enjoy believe me it was hard getting from nights to days and it does take a toll on your body working overnight.
